In the town of Hellin near Alicante, Spain, a renovation has infused the historic Casa del Conde home with a modern museum space.
The renewal included the preservation of one existing wall, to maintain an aesthetic connection between the old house and its neighbourhood, including an ancient church.
Exit Architects by Madrid have redesign the rest of the building; the result is a sculptural volume. Local stone panels adorn the façade, while concrete and translucent profiled glass define the massive new exhibition space.
Inside, the new museum opens to the public with huge doors to the main gallery. Wooden platforms provide space to display art pieces, while simultaneously subtly leading visitors through the sloping exhibition area.
